In this book Bulgarian historian Georgi Markov (born 1946) argues that fate, as a factor in history, has many faces and doesn't necessarily side with the powerful. Fate changes, he says. It can punish its own favorites if they show no restraint, and it can come to the rescue of those who are drowning. If we are honest with ourselves and others, misunderstanding will not become misfortune. No one has been able to fool fate and bring it entirely to his side. We need to understand fate, because if we do, our frustration will wane and our gratitude for our life's lot will increase. The examples provided in the book prove that variability is stronger than permanence, which makes history even more interesting and instructive.
