The memoir “Far Away: Pictures from Siberian everyday life” was written by famous European archaeologist Gero von Mergarth (1886-1959), who was sent to Siberia as a prisoner and a war officer of the First World War and spent almost 7 years there. This book is a kind of travel diary, a series of essays about our region, people, living and working conditions during the most difficult time for the country during the Civil War.
