The monograph presents an analysis of the main stages in the development of fair trade in Russia from the inception to the beginning of the 20th century; the characteristic of fairs in the cities of the European North of Russia in the XIX - early XX centuries is given. In particular, the fair areas of the European North of Russia are revealed, the centers of the fair areas - cities are characterized, the description of urban “fair chains” of areas is given, their product profile and importance for the European North of Russia are analyzed. Fairs in rural areas of the European North of Russia are characterized (“fair chains”, the dynamics of the development of a fair network in rural areas of the European North of Russia; the importance of rural fairs for the population of the region and for the development of the domestic market of Russia as a whole). The description of the mechanism of organizing fairs in the European North of Russia in the 19th - early 20th centuries is given and their role for the population of the region.
