A novel by prominent Bulgarian author Blaga Dimitrova (1922-2003). Marxism instructor Bora Naidenova spends her free time conducting a somewhat strange public opinion poll. In order to learn about the moods in contemporary society, she asks everyone the question: What do you value most in life? She receives all sorts of answers, some of them commonplace, others quite honest. As she carries on with her poll, she meets Kiril, a former student of hers who was expelled from the university. Just like her, Kiril had a troubled past, which had to do with the imposition of communism in Bulgaria. But he and Bora differ in their opinions about communist ideology. They argue about matters like freedom, human nature, humanity, life and truth. And behind all this, there is one recurrent question: What do you value most in life? When "Face" was first published in 1981, the communist government was piqued by its message. Most of the copies of the novel were withdrawn from the bookstores and "locked up" in a former prison in Sliven. But it was too late: "Face" had already reached readers. And it was passed secretly from hand to hand.
