The most popular Russian newspaper "Russkoe slovo" came into existence at the end of the XIXth century with circulation about 10000 copies. By the beginning of the XXth century the number of copies increased to 1 million. Such brilliant authors as Sytin (the chief editor), Doroshevich, Petrov, Giliarovsky, Nemirovich-Danchenko took part in the creation of the newspaper. In 1917 the Bolsheviks suppressed its publication. The book reflects the history of 'Russkoe slovo'.
