The richly illustrated book gives an overview of the chairs, either handcrafted at home or commissioned from a local carpenter, that were used in farming from the first half of the 19th century until about the 1940s. When making a farm chair, practicality and durability have always been taken into account. It could be a simple seat, convenient for mundane work, or a piece of pride with exquisite decorations, on which only the most distinguished guests were offered to sit. As handmade products, they are all unique and speak volumes about the skill and beauty of their creator. English Rococo, Empire and Biedermeier styles left their mark. The local version has become widespread in Europe.
