The book is dedicated to the history of the Estland immaturized chivalry, which for several centuries had full power in local governments in Northern Estonia. This closed corporation, united by common political and economic interests of the nobility, played an important role, first in the history of the Swedish state, and then the Russian Empire. Three figures emerged from this groupe, each of whom radically influenced the fate of the Russian state. These are P.A. Palen, A.H. Benckendorf, and M. B. Barclay de Tolly.
