The book "Essays on the Modern History of Ukraine" is an attempt by an international group of scientists gathered by the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Science Center (Washington, USA) to describe and analyze the collective experience of modern Ukrainians, which they have acquired over the past thirty years. In the nine chapters of the book, the authors - scientists from Ukrainian, American, British, European and Canadian universities examine how an independent state was established, political crises arose and were resolved, the private sector and energy were formed, wealth and poverty were reinvented, free media were developed and modern art, a new religious experience emerged, and the national identity and democratic order in Ukraine evolved. Written from different research and ideological positions, this story allows us to see the richness and tragedy of the diverse experience of modern Ukraine.
