LSU was created on May 1, 1949 by the participants of the liberation struggle, who, believing in the idea of the liberation struggle in Ukraine and understanding the need for its continuation in the Native Lands and in Canada, united to continue and spread the struggle for the Ukrainian State by all possible means in the conditions of emigration. From the first day of its work, LSU became the vanguard of the so-called Second Front of the struggle against the organized Ukrainian community in Canada and actively helped its brothers and sisters in Ukraine, in particular, in the struggle of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
