The author of this book, Mikhail Katkov (1818-1887), is a Russian publicist, philosopher, literary critic, editor of the “Russian Herald” where all Russian classical literary works were published, professor of philosophy of the Imperial Moscow University, organizer of one of the best educational institutions in the Russian Empire – the Lyceum named after Cesarevitch Nikolay Alexandrovich, editor-publisher of “The Moscow News”, a most influential newspaper, where he almost daily placed his publicistic articles read all over Russia.
