Siarhei Astreika (1912–1937) was a talented Belarusian poet of the interwar generation. Rich, colorful metaphors along with true linguistic “polyphony” define the distinctive style of the author, whose poems “Emeralds Through” and “Bengal” received high marks from contemporaries. The first of them is a romantic and philosophical reflection of S. Astreika on the ways of development of the native land, the second is devoted to the liberation movement of the Bengal people during the colonial dependence.
During his lifetime, the poet, who fell victim to Stalinist repression, never managed to publish a single book; he also had few publications in the press. Today, for the first time, almost all known works of Sergei Astreika are collected under one cover - poems, poems, as well as newspaper notes and magazine articles.
