The book by Anna Khoroshkevich, who specializes in the studies of medieval history of Eastern Europe, and particularly Russia and its international relations, is dedicated to the state symbolism of old and modern Russia. In the framework of building up the modern Russian Federation the present topic is important. The author makes conclusions from the discussions, which took place at the turn of the XXth and XXIst centuries and which concerned the correlation of the national and state symbols, individual questions of the origin of the double eagle, as well as other disputable issues, including the so-called Ruriks’ signs. She also turns to the knotty question of history of the national flag and anthem.
