Ejmiadzin is the name for the cathedral of the church of Armenians. In the ancient times the town was called Vagarshapat. The latter appeared under the tsar Vagarshak (117-140 AD) on the place of the ancient settlement Vargesavan which was founded at the end of the IIIrd century or the beginning of the IInd century BC on the hilly country by Shreshblur Vardges – the son-in-law of the Airaratsky tsras of Eruandun.
