The book was written by a Bulgarian teacher who was also a preacher and held the title of priestmonk. He worked as a healer throughout his life. He did not study medicine, but he knew about health and healing more than any doctor with a university degree. That is why he was prosecuted and harassed: first, by the Turks, for looking after rebels (including Vasil Levski, the Apostle of Liberty!), and after the Liberation of 1878, by would-be doctors and pharmacists for "stealing" their patients and providing free treatment. This book is a collection of his prescriptions and recommendations, his legacy.
