The book is about Gotse Delchev (1872-1903), who was immediately recognized by his contemporaries as the new apostle of national revolution. Bulgarians in both the Principality of Bulgaria and the areas still under Ottoman rule saw in Delchev the man who would continue the struggle of Vassil Levski, the Apostle of Liberty, 30 years on. The book was written by poet Peio Iavorov in the tragic months after Delchev's death and after the violent suppression of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie Uprising of 1903. With his words, Iavorov brings the unforgettable son of Mother Bulgaria back to life and tries to assuage his own grief for the loss of a friend.
