The novel is written by the famous writer, nominee of numerous literary prizes, winner of the Small Booker as the editor-in-chief of the "Vestnik Novoi Literatury" ("Journal of Modern Literature") , awarded in 2010 with the Franc-Tireur Silver Bullet for the corpus of his works. From the preface of Michael Berg: "I wrote this novel in 1986, determined to portray an impossible situation of "the overthrow of the Soviet regime” and its replacement by what "almost immediately proved to be even worse." The idea seemed equally amusing, mocking and fantastic, but the reality very quickly began to compete my imagination".
