The book by the Buryat writer Alexey Gatapov tells the story of the life of the first Buryat scientist Dorzhi Banzarov. The plot covers a year and a half of the last, Irkutsk period of the hero's life, when he served as an official under the Governor-General of Eastern Siberia N.N. Muravyov. The book simultaneously reflects the spirit and atmosphere of life in the city of Irkutsk and Eastern Siberia in the middle of the 19th century, the customs and worldview of the people of that time.
