The historical sources and especially documents of the XIIth century contain many interesting testimonies about the diplomatic relations between Armenian catholicate of Hromkla, Byzantine Court and Patriarchate of Constantinople. The majority of these documents has already been published, but some of them are particularly known only to narrow circle of byzantinologists and armenologists, because they have been preserved only in manuscripts. During the second half of the XIth century Armeno-Byzantine ecclesiastical and political relations assumed a hostile character on both sides.
