Slovak diplomat and politician Eduard Kukan was one of the most prominent figures in Slovak modern history. In the position of multiple foreign minister, he determined the direction Slovakia would take after years of swordsmanship and the famous "black hole of Europe". When he entered politics after thirty years in diplomacy, he had only a marginal idea of the colorful, challenging and often dramatic moments he was bringing.
