Nikolay Cherginets served in the internal affairs bodies for more than 30 years, went from a police lieutenant to a lieutenant general of the internal service. Most of the book is devoted to memories of a three-year stay in Afghanistan. Nikolay Cherginets was a direct participant in combat operations, wrote about the defense of Kabul: how the battles in the Afghan gorges took place, who became a hero, what events were the most striking in the war. In the book, the author shares impressions and feelings from something unusual, talks about interesting meetings, unfamiliar landscapes, acquaintance with the life of Afghans and, of course, about the minutes and hours of battle experienced. Nikolay Cherginets describes not only the heroism of Soviet soldiers, but also their help to Afghans in building a new life. With sympathy, the author also remembers new friends - Afghans who stood on positions of friendship with the Soviet Union. The book is illustrated with many unique photographs from the personal archive of N.I. Cherginets.
