The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a first of its kind innovation adopted in 2006 by the Human Rights Council (HRC) to complement the works of treaty bodies. Established through the UN General Assembly Resolution 60/251, the UPR involves the review on a periodic basis, of the human rights performances of all Member States of the United Nations on the ground of equal propensity of all States to commit human rights violations. a comprehensive and a deep intellectual exposition of Nigeria's engagement with the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism. This book presents an objective but descriptive narrative of the three UPR process, including claims of progress in the promotion and protection of human rights made by the Government of Nigeria and counter claims of human rights gaps by United Nations entities and other civil society stakeholders. Data and facts presented in this book were drawn exclusively from national reports, UN reports and reports submitted to the HRC according to United Nations General Assembly Resolution 60/251.
