The present book by Mikhailovsky – Danilevsky is the first full-scale work on the history of Patriotic war of 1812. This work, which had not been reprinted foe 150 years, still is one of the main sources for those, who are studying the age of Napoleonic wars. The book was many times estimated by later researchers. It was debated by Tolstoy. Many other historians thought, that Mikhailovsky – Danilevsky described the battles without any analysis from the point of view of military art. Still, there are no works on the history of year 1812 without quotations from his work.
