The prerequisites for the establishment and peculiarities of the development of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, one of the oldest universities in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, are revealed. The peculiarities of the formation and development of the Faculty of Law of Lviv University, the oldest law school in Ukraine, are described.
