The book tells about the formation of the phenomenon of the Demidov family, who laid the foundation of the Urals as the "Supporting edge of the state", about the objects of cultural and historical significance that have survived today - significant for Russia - protected by the state. The reader's attention is focused on three cities of the Urals, which became the basis for the formation of the "iron empire" of the Demidovs: Nevyansk, with its famous "leaning tower", Nizhny Tagil, which has preserved to this day one of the Demidov factories in the form of a technological monument-museum, and Kyshtym, which has a unique architectural building of Demidov times, popularly called the "White House".
