The publication commemorates the 250th anniversary of the defense of the city of Tsaritsyn from the troops of Yemelyan Pugachev and is the first specialized study dedicated to this subject. Appendices include, for the first time, full texts of reports by Colonel I. E. Tsypletev, Tsaritsyn’s commandant, on the successful defense of the city. These were addressed to Empress Catherine II and the supreme commander-in-chief, Count P. I. Panin. The book also contains the most complete to date lists of Tsaritsyn defenders and records of military and civilian losses in Tsaritsyn, Saratov, and Dmitrievsk, compiled from documents found in various federal and regional archives.
Author: Yevgeny Vladimirovich Astafyev is a Chairman of the Tsaritsyn Genealogical Society, member of the Council of the Russian Genealogical Federation, and of the Central Council of the Society of Descendants of World War I (Saratov / Volgograd).
