Based on archival research, the book contains biographical information about 110 nobles of the Tauride province who defended Sevastopol during the Crimean War in 1854-1855. Methodologically, the collection is built on the principles of personal accounting, adopted in the Naval and Military departments of the Russian Empire, according to the rules of reference and encyclopedic literature. The basis for including in the book, along with the documented facts of the officer's stay in the Sevastopol garrison in 1854-1855, is the presence among his awards of the medal "For the Defense of Sevastopol from September 13, 1854 to August 28, 1855".
