Cultural expansion is a process of slow and continued occupation of the Ukrainian cultural life by Russia, crowding out specific phenomena from Ukrainian culture and either appropriating them or replacing them with one's own. Everyone has heard about the ban on the Ukrainian language, knows about the Russification of the Ukrainian television or the destruction of historical architecture in Soviet times. However, much fewer people realize the extent of this expansion and the depth of the Russian influence on the skin sphere of cultural life. Our anthology presents a multidimensional picture of Russia's aggressive behavior in the Ukrainian cultural field — from the 18th century to today, from church architecture to television advertising.
