The book investigates various issues on relations of Cossack communities of the Don River and the North-West Caucasus (Kuban) with the Crimean Khanate and the Ottoman Empire. The problem is considered against the background of the international position of Russia and Muslim countries of the Black Sea basin. Particular attention is paid to the reasons of "rapprochement" of the Don Cossacks with the Crimean Khanate in the second half of XVIIth century. Events of the "Don split" are overviewed in connection with the process of formation of the Cossacks at Qom, Astrakhan and Kuban. The author provides detailed analysis of the role of the action of K.A.Bulavin in the formation of the Kuban Cossacks. The monograph covers the period up to 1708 - 1712.
