The book consists of documents revealing repression mechanisms and specific ways of their implementation which characterise the structure and principles of the state machines activity set to organize backbreaking toil and mass extermination of people. The book produces an analysis of the creation and functioning of the repression system in the USSR in 1920-early 1950s. Among other documents in this book, there are structions, resolutions, orders, directives and reports of punitive and governmental offices: OGPU-NKVD-MGB (state security services), decisions of Communist Party (Belarusian), the Council of Peoples Commissars... The reminiscences of Belarusians put through the hell of Stalins concentration camps were selected into a separate chapter. Most documents are published for the first time.
