Podlasie - a rustic forested region between Poland and Belarus, is a bit of a forgotten land. It is all the more charming and has a unique atmosphere shrouded in mist rising above the swamps. Dorota, the daughter of a local gravedigger, absorbs all the surrounding world - with its complex interpersonal relationships, religiosity, neglect, beauty, whispers that they can heal, supernatural and harsh reality. The story of Dorothy's adolescence in this strange, magical region of the reader is accompanied by her best friend. Alena Sabuchova chose a beautiful space for her gentle, but at the same time rough storytelling and dealt with it with exceptional characters standing on the border of not only two neighboring states. The novel is inspired by her several visits to the Podlasia region. The book also includes photographs by Robert Tappert, which were taken in Podlasi during the author's collection of material.
