The Belarusian language belongs to the Slavic group of languages. Slavic languages are native to more than 200 million people, representatives of various Slavic peoples. Slavic languages are spoken in a large part of the territory of Europe. East Slavic: Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian languages. This group is the smallest in terms of the number of languages, but the largest in terms of the number of Slavs who speak the languages of this group (over 180 million people). About 80% of the indigenous population of our republic consider the Belarusian language to be their native language.
