The author of the collected works is Yulian Semyonov, a Jewish Russian writer of spy fiction, the author of “The seventeen instants of spring”, and the founder and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Sovershenno sekretno" ("Top secret"). The second volume of his works comprises the novel 'The third card' the action of which takes place on the eve and during the first days of World War II, and the chronicle "Major Whirlwind" which is dedicated to the rescue by the Soviet reconnaissance group of the mined Polish city of Krakow.
