The author of the collected works is Yulian Semyonov, a Jewish Russian writer of spy fiction, the author of “The seventeen instants of spring”, and the founder and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Sovershenno sekretno" ("Top secret"). The second volume of his works comprises the novel “The Spanish version” which presents Shtirlits’s work in Spain in 1938, and the novel 'Alternative' where the action takes place in Yugoslavia in the spring of 1941.
