In 1956, there were protests in Poland and Hungary, which were bloodily pacified by the communist authorities. On June 28, workers from the largest workplaces in the region entered the streets of the capital of Wielkopolska. The main cause of dissatisfaction was the bad economic situation - the result of errors in economic policy aimed at the expansion of heavy industry at the expense of the inhabitants' standard of living.
