The six-pillar one-domed church of the Orthodox Spaso-Evfrosinievskiy monastery in Polotsk, built in the middle of the 12th century. This is the best preserved monument of ancient Polotsk architecture, even despite the restructuring of the classicism period.
The Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior is a unique monument of ancient Russian architecture, painting, and theological thought, which has miraculously come down to us through the ages. The creation of the temple is inextricably linked with the Monk Euphrosyne - an outstanding personality of her time and the spiritual patroness of the Polotsk land.
The exact date of construction of the temple is unknown. It was built, presumably, in the years 1120-1150. As the life of Saint Euphrosyne tells, the talented architect John was called by the Lord to build a stone church in honor of the All-Merciful Savior. With the revival of the monastery in the 1990s, daily services resumed in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior. In 2007, it was crowned with a gilded dome, and the interior of the church is decorated with a carved iconostasis.
In 2017, a comprehensive restoration of the ancient monument began. The ongoing work will help preserve the pearl of Polotsk architecture - the unique Spaso-Preobrazhensky Church, conceived and built by the heavenly patroness of Belarus, St. Euphrosyne.
