This book could be called "the unknown Arseniev". The modern reader is accustomed to think of him as a happy and successful man who lived an interesting, adventurous life. He escaped repression by dying in his own bed, and is now immortalized in the names of the city, airport, streets, museums. The author decided to describe his difficult life artistically, but this does not mean that the facts are made up.
