Snjezana Banovic is a director, writer and full professor at the Production Department of the Academy of Dramatic Arts, University of Zagreb. She was born in Zagreb in 1963. She studied French and Spanish at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, graduated in theater direction at the Academy of Dramatic Arts (1990) and received her doctorate in theater at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Zagreb (2011). She improved on a series of scholarships and educations in Croatia and abroad. She has directed about 50 plays and stage-musical events in the country and abroad, is the author of several stage templates, adaptations and translations for the theater as well as many scientific and professional texts in the field of theatrology, reviewer of several scientific articles and promoter of numerous literary and theatrical publications. He regularly publishes columns and blogs about theatre, culture and politics in print and online editions. The main area of her work and research is the historical and cultural-political development of national theaters and festivals in Croatia, and above all the influence of politics on culture - all of this is the starting point for the texts published in this book. She has published the books: The State and its Theater (Profil, 2012), The Crisis Theater (Durieux, 2013), The Official Exit (Fraktura, 2018), and after this, a new book about Zagreb's HNK is being prepared: Theater for the people - Croatian National Theater in Zagreb 1945–1955.
