The research is devoted to the first four centuries after the separation of Western and Eastern churches. The relationships between the two churches are considered against a broad background of church and historical events of the Christian world - from the Non-Chalcedonian Churches to the Russian metropolitanate. Special chapters examine the key points of the era, which determined the future fate of the Orthodox-Catholic relations: the Crusades, hesychast disputes and the Ferrara-Florence cathedral.
