The battle of Khotyn between the combined forces of the Commonwealth and the Ukrainian Cossacks under the leadership of Peter Sagaidachny on the one hand and the army of the Ottoman Empire on the other lasted from September 2 to October 3, 1621. It was the final stage of the Khotyn War of 1620-1621 - a military confrontation between the Sultan of Turkey and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Polish army (almost 31,000 soldiers) stopped near Khotyn. To help him came an army of Cossacks (over 14 thousand people), which included a detachment led by Peter Sagaidachny. Fierce fighting near Khotyn lasted almost a month, but thanks to the Cossacks, the Poles survived. Defeated, the Ottoman Sultan Osman II was forced to end the war.
