Under the title 'Children in Exile', this bilingual image documentation depicts the everyday life of the intercultural-educational project between the SWAPO leadership and the GDR, which was created in times of war, from the perspective of the contemporary witness and former lesson planner of the Namibian children in the GDR, Jürgen Krause. The pictorial documentation deals with the beginning of the dispatch of the "GDR children from Namibia" from the SWAPO camps in Angola to the GDR, describes the camp life with GDR teachers and SWAPO officials in Kassinga and Kwanza Sul in Angola as well as the history of their origin and the administrative side of the "School of Friendship" specially set up for the children from Namibia and the Bellin Children's Home in the former GDR. To this day, there are friendly connections between former students and teachers. The last chapter in 'Children in Exile' reports on the career and whereabouts of the so-called "GDR children of Namibia" or "Ossis of Namibia". The image documentation is an interesting contribution to the description of the complicated and ambivalent relationship history of Namibia and Germany.
