The book is dedicated to the 150 anniversary of Chekhov and Levitan, and it presents all the known data about their stay in Udomlya land. Here Levitan created his famous “March” (1895), “Golden autumn” (1895), and many other pictures; here Chekhov had been a witness of the events later described in his play “Seagull” (1895) and story “House with mezzanine” (1896). The edition also includes the story by T.L.Shchepkina-Kupernik (1874-1952) “Elders” based on the events she participated at the lake Ostrovno, and a story by V.K.Byalynitsky-Birul’ (1872-1957, Levitan’s pupil) “The last flowers of Levitan” (1930-1949), published in full for the first time.
