The first decade of independence was not an easy period for five Asian states (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). The research is devoted to the most acute and urgent problems that the aforementioned states have been facing during their development. The prospects of this development are also revealed on the basis of a demographic prognosis and a thorough examination of the situation in the agricultural, extractive and manufacturing sectors of the economy. Conclusions made are supported by thoroughly selected statistical and factual information.
