The book, first published in the USA in 2002, is the most complete biography of the sculptor Ernst Neizvestny published in English. Its author, Albert Leong, a professor of Slavic studies at the University of Oregon, was a direct participant in the American period of the artist’s life, closely communicating with him and his inner circle. Professor Leong’s main research focus is aimed at understanding Neizvestny’s role “as an artist, critic and thinker in the tradition of Russian social and philosophical thought” and his development as an American sculptor. The illustrated edition, prepared by the Prometheus Foundation for the 100th anniversary of E.I. Neizvestny’s birth, contains fragments of the Master’s diary entries and letters, excerpts from transcripts of his interviews. This is a truly complete documentary version of the life and work of one of the main Russian-American artists of the 20th century. Translated from English by E.Yu. Rubinova.
