Ivan Gavrilovich Golovin (1816–1890) was a Russian publicist. He is primarily known for a number of works about contemporary Russia, some of which attracted general attention. This book was published in 1854 in French in London, but was translated into Russian only now. It contains many factual and chronological inaccuracies, but it will be of interest to the reader, since it has historiographical value, allowing one to form an idea of the image of the North Caucasian peoples in the minds of the Russian (English) European pre-revolutionary elite.
