Ivan Gavrilovich Golovin (1816–1890) is a Russian émigré publicist. He is primarily known for a series of works on contemporary Russia, some of which attracted widespread attention. This book was first published in 1854 in French in London, but it has only now been translated into Russian. It contains numerous factual and chronological inaccuracies; nevertheless, it will be of interest to the reader as it holds historiographical value, providing insight into the perception of the peoples of the North Caucasus in the consciousness of the pre-revolutionary Russian (and European) elite.
