I was born in the village Rudeuschyna, Grodno region. It has hardly survived. It hurts to look at what used to please the eye and warm the soul, and now disappears. remaining only in our memory, in the past, without which the future is impossible.
Catholic churches are inseparable from the history of the Belarusian people. Visiting different parts of our Motherland, I saw both the gigantic and grandeur of the churches and their dilapidated condition. He felt misunderstood and disappointed when the outlines of non-Catholic churches and other buildings hinted at the architecture of the church.
No matter what position a person held in society, he was rich or poor, a believer or an atheist, but when trouble came to a house or a country, people went to the temple for help and salvation. The history of the church is the history of the people, their struggle and faith. Catholic churches, along with Belarusians and other peoples, have gone through centuries of prosperity and persecution. including Sovietpower.
The building, even the temple, can be blown up, destroyed, looted. But Faith cannot be destroyed! She is a force. It will revive what has happened more than once in the history of my country.
While working on books about the churches of Belarus, I wanted not so much to reveal the history of architectural monuments as to make a seemingly still frame.
Behind almost 6,000 kilometers are about 400 churches, 3 years of work - exciting and interesting, conversations with hundreds of people imbued with faith, kindness and hope for a better life.
May this book about the churches of the Grodno diocese, as well as publications about the Catholic shrines of my whole Motherland help us to feel more deeply the meaning of our life, the world around us and the place in this life.
