Castrum Salis was the only castle in the northern border of Hungary in the 11th - 12th century on the border with Poland and Russia. It is mentioned in the oldest Hungarian narrative sources in Gesture Hungarorum by anonymous notary Bela III. and in the Hungarian-Polish Crown. Only very few data have been preserved, and therefore it has been included among castles that are historically the subject of various conjectures, doubts or confusing interpretations. Nevertheless, Castrum Salis makes it possible to better understand not only the history of the Hungarian border in the 11th-12th centuries, but also the oldest history of the Saris region.
