Many-sided activities of the Buryat Khambo lama Agvan Dorzhiyev (1854-1938), his active participation in political events that developed around Tibet in the early XXth century as well as his incessant work directed at the spread of Buddha teaching among uneducated Mongol peoples make up one of the brightest chapters of Russian history. Publication of autobiography by Agvan Dorzhiyev is prepared basing on an authentic Buryat manuscript, stored in Manuscript Section of St.Petersburg Department of the Institute of Oriental Studies, RAS.
