Every chapter is devoted to one manuscript: a Greek or a Byzantine manuscript from the Xth, XIth or XIVth century, or Russian manuscripts of XIth-XVth centuries. The author makes up a typology of images and describes iconographic schools of those times. Half of the book is composed of high-quality illustrations of icons.
