The issue introduces publication of a chapter from the memoirs "The Far and the Near" by the world known Russian painter and sculptor Ilya Repin, and discourses upon the artist's travel along the Volga River, his impressions of the Samara Province of the late XIXth century, the unique Volga nature, meetings with Burlaks and working upon the picture. The reminiscences are accompanied with a large number of photoreproductions of works by I.Repin, F.Vasilyev, I.Kramsky and postcards of the late XIXth century from S.F.Rudnyayev's collections.
